Brisk Teaching: How AI Can be a Breath of Fresh Air
Monday January 6, 2025 12:00pm - 1:00pm EST
AI.  It's a name that strikes fear (or at least annoyance and displeasure) into the hearts of most educators, but what if I told you it can be very beneficial when used as a tool rather than a content generator?  Welcome to Brisk Teaching, an AI-based app that can breathe some fresh air into your routine as an educator, help save time, and help you better serve your students.  This session will introduce you to Brisk Teaching, show you how easy it is to use, and give you plenty of examples of positive, helpful ways to use Brisk Teaching's AI in your classroom.  This session will also discuss practical ways to spot AI use in student responses, combat that AI use in your classroom, and help dispel some of the discomfort around AI.  If you're uncomfortable with AI in any way, this is a great place to start!

CHAMPS - Classroom Management for ALL
Monday January 6, 2025 12:00pm - 1:00pm EST
Join me for an interactive session on CHAMPS, a research-based, proactive classroom management strategy designed to prevent unwanted behaviors before they happen. CHAMPS focuses on establishing clear expectations that set the stage for a positive, well-structured classroom environment. While it’s not a quick fix for the most difficult behaviors, when implemented consistently, it reduces the majority of classroom disruptions, making learning more focused and engaging.
In this session, we’ll break down the key components of CHAMPS—ConversationHelpActivityMovementParticipation/Post-Activity, and Star Student/Success—and explore how these elements can be aligned with your current classroom management strategies. Together, we’ll create an example CHAMPS chart, walk through real-life classroom scenarios, and develop proactive plans to address challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to apply CHAMPS principles to design their own management plans for various scenarios, sharing insights with their peers to reinforce best practices.
By the end of the session, you will:
  • Gain an understanding of the CHAMPS strategy and how it supports proactive behavior management
  • Develop a personalized CHAMPS plan for your classroom
  • Learn how to adjust and reinforce expectations as needed to maintain a productive learning environment
This session will leave you feeling equipped to handle classroom management challenges and energized to implement CHAMPS strategies that work for you and your students.
Target:
I can apply the fundamentals of the CHAMPS strategy to proactively support positive behavior and classroom management.
Success Criteria:
  • Use CHAMPS to develop a management plan for a given scenario.
  • Plan at least one way you could implement CHAMPS in your classroom.
Come prepared to collaborate, share ideas, and leave with actionable strategies to improve classroom dynamics and student engagement.

Brisk Teaching: How AI Can be a Breath of Fresh Air
Monday January 6, 2025 1:10pm - 2:10pm EST

CHAMPS - Classroom Management for ALL
Monday January 6, 2025 1:10pm - 2:10pm EST
